PLASTIC

Plastic bottles and jugs are accepted in Louisville's curbside and drop-off recycling programs. Make sure they're empty, squeeze out the air if you can, and replace the plastic cap. (Reuse or put pumps and spray nozzles in the trash.)

Plastic take-out containers, cups, yogurt and butter tubs are accepted at Louisville's drop-off recycling locations and most curbside recycling programs. (If Rumpke collects your recycling, only recycle bottles and jugs.)

Plastic shopping bags are NOT accepted in curbside or drop-off recycling containers. Please recycle at participating retail stores. They also accept plastic shipping material, outer package wrapping, and other plastic bags. Read more.

Although Styrofoam is a type of plastic, it is not accepted in Louisville's recycling program. Cups and takeout containers should be disposed in the trash. (Large Styrofoam packaging inserts that are clean and free of tape and stickers can be recycled at Foam Fabricators in New Albany.)
